This weekend marks the 150th anniversary of President Lincoln’s funeral. To commemorate this anniversary, there are a number of events happening throughout the state. From re-enactments to museum displays, there are plenty of things to do to celebrate the life and legacy of Abraham Lincoln this weekend.

Located in Will County, the Des Plaines Fish and Wildlife Area is a peaceful setting with flowing rivers and natural prairie land. Nature lovers and sportsmen will find themselves at home at this park.

Jeff Boshart has had a lifelong passion for art. He is a sculptor and educator who teaches sculpture at Eastern Illinois University. Boshart’s job involves introducing students to the history and contemporary issues in sculpture as well as demonstrating how and why artists create or invent. Boshart also works with various materials and tools and teaches others how to safely use them. When he is not busy teaching, Boshart enjoys working on large-scale sculpture installations that typically involve a lot of planning.

Some of the truly great and influential authors of the last century have hailed from Illinois. Whether it be Jane Addams writing on the great social issues of her time in Chicago, or Ray Bradbury writing fantasy novels, Illinois has a rich history of literature.

The Dana-Thomas House on 3rd Street and Lawrence Avenue in Springfield was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright in 1902. Springfield socialite Susan Lawrence Dana commissioned Wright to build the home after inheriting a large sum of money from her father, Rheuna Lawrence.
