Residents and tourists looking to beat the heat this summer have a great selection of city pools and waterparks across Illinois. Here are some of the state’s popular waterparks.
Six Flags Hurricane Harbor Rockford
Six Flag’s Hurricane Harbor in Cherry Valley is home to the largest wave pool in Illinois, Tsunami Bay. Children wanting a break from rides are able to visit the Tiki Island splash zone or move over to the Little Lagoon. For thrill seekers, the park is expected to soon open the Tidal Wave, the first tailspin waterslide in the Midwest.
Splash Country
In Aurora, Splash Country features a 1,100 foot lazy river with jets and bubbling rapids and features an enclosed kid-friendly area that keeps younger family members engaged with spray guns and other interactive features. Guests looking for a more competitive beach-like experience will also be excited for the park’s two sand volleyball courts.
Knight’s Action Park
Located in the state capital of Springfield, Knights Action Park features splash pads, a wave pool and several water slides. In addition to aquatic attractions, the park also features a batting cage, driving range and go karts. Paddle boats are also available to rent for use on the park’s lake.
Great Wolf Lodge
If potential weather is a concern, Great Wolf Lodge in Gurnee hosts a fully indoor waterpark. The waterpark offers several slides, multiple splash pools and a multi-level aquatic treehouse. The park’s signature water slide, River Canyon Run, features an indoor raft ride for two to five riders, all without going outside.
Collinsville Aqua Park
The Collinsville Aqua Park provides guests with a more casual waterpark experience. The Aqua Park is home to a figure-eight shaped lazy river, two 3-story waterslides and a large leisure pool. Kids will enjoy Monsoon Mountain, a 50 foot tall play area with five smaller slides and a 500 gallon water bucket on top.
Raging Waves Waterpark
Raging Waves is Illinois’ largest water park, featuring an Aussie theme. The waterpark in Yorkville offers guests multiple wave pools, a lazy river and a whopping 32 water slides. The park also features 37 private cabanas for guests to rent and relax.
Super Splash Park
For those in Southern Illinois, Super Splash Park in Carbondale offers aquatic playgrounds, a beach-style wave pool, and a lazy river. A lap pool is also available for guests with a focus on fitness.
