Take a Walk in the Park Day 2024 FB

March 30 is Take a Walk in the Park Day! With spring weather greeting the state, it is a chance to get outside and enjoy what local parks have to share. To celebrate, here are some parks across the state with walking trails to take a stroll with family, friends or your dog!


Ferne Clyffe State Park: Goreville, IL
With many unique geological features to see at Ferne Clyffe Park, there are plenty of opportunities to walk one of their eighteen trails! Along these different walking trails – ranging from a quarter-mile to eight miles long – there are chances to see the lake, waterfalls and rock formations.


Swansea Clinton Hills Conservation Park: Swansea, IL
Explore almost two miles of trails that surround a conservation garden, hosting an abundance of beautiful sights. With many flowers along the trails, you will also have a chance to sit by some fresh water and observe ducks and geese! This is the perfect place to bring your friends and your dogs.


Empire Park: East Moline, IL
Empire Park is located along the Mississippi River and provides walking and bike trail access that reveal scenic views of the famous river. Along the trail, there are places to stop and play on their famous wooden playground, and take a break at one of their large picnic pavilions.


Oz Park: Chicago, IL
A “Wizard of Oz” themed park located in Lincoln Park, Oz Park features play equipment for children to explore along with a trail boasting statues of their favorite characters from the story. With more than 14 acres to explore, Oz Park has beautiful flowers and fields for everyone to enjoy!


Galena River Trail: Galena, IL
With over eight miles of scenic walking trails, everyone can explore the history of the Galena area while sightseeing flora and fauna, including the many birds that inhabit the area. A trail with a mix of walking along the Mississippi River and into the Galena Junction, there is lots to explore!
