This December, add a bit of holiday cheer to your regular commute or explore new places by catching a ride on holiday transit offered across the state.
Whether by bus, train or trolley, these rides add joy and magic to cold winter days that the whole family can enjoy.
See our list below to plan your next ride:
CTA Holiday Train
Since 1992, the CTA Holiday Train has brought joy to its passengers and delivered food baskets to various charitable agencies throughout Chicago. This year, the train will provide service on Saturdays, changing lines each week. For your chance to ride the holiday train and review the train’s schedule, visit the CTA’s website.
CTA Holiday Bus
The CTA Holiday Bus has been serving thousands of Chicago residents since 2014. Each year, a 60-foot bus is transformed to a winter wonderland and provides rides as part of regular service. View the Holiday Bus schedule here.
Aurora Jolly Trolley
This year, the Jolly Trolley is coming to downtown Aurora. Offering a hop-on, hop-off service, the trolley will make six stops throughout the downtown area to allow riders to explore the heart of Aurora and have the chance to visit the Christkindlmarket at River Edge Park on Fridays and Saturdays. The trolley is free to ride. For more information visit Downtown Aurora’s website.
Sangamon Mass Transit District Holiday Bus
SMTD’s Holiday Bus, known as Holly, is back for 2024! With over 13,000 lights, Holly is a popular sight during the winter months.
