With the holiday season right around the corner, Amazon is looking to hire more than 120,000 seasonal workers nationwide, including 10,000 new employees in Illinois.

The seasonal hiring in Illinois is a part of the online retailer’s overall goal of adding thousands of temporary workers across the country to its distribution centers, sorting centers and customer service sites.

“We prepare year-round for the holidays and we’re excited to hire for over 120,000 positions this season to help delight our customers,” Dave Clark, senior vice president of Global Customer Fulfillment, said in a news release. “We look forward to welcoming back holiday employees who return each year to Amazon and welcome new faces to the team, many of whom will continue on with regular, full-time roles with the company after the holidays.”

Those hired will join more than 125,000 regular, full-time employees at Amazon’s 75 fulfillment centers nationwide to help pick, pack and ship customers’ holiday orders. Last year, many of these holiday positions became permanent and the company says it expects to continue that trend.

Amazon hosted a job fair on Aug. 2 in Romeoville and 11 other sites across the country. Along with applying for jobs, candidates also got to tour the facility to see the jobs they applied for.

Last May, Kathleen Carroll, Amazon’s chief recruited told the Chicago Sun-Times the company expects to employ 7,000 people full time statewide by July 2018. The hiring will be spread across the nine fulfillment centers in the state including those in Joliet, Aurora, Romeoville and Monee.

Part-time seasonal jobs in Illinois are listed, among others, in Chicago, Mundelein, Morton Grove, Lisle, Wood Dale and Crest Hill.
