Christkindlmarket

Illinois’ favorite holiday market is back in Chicago and the suburbs. The Christkindlmarket, an annual holiday tradition that brings European customs to Illinois, is a favorite among Chicagoans and visitors.

The famous open-air market is inspired by holiday markets in Germany that date back to the 16th century in Nuremberg. The Christkindlmarket has been an annual tradition in Chicago since 1996 and this year, the market will be in Aurora for its third year.

Annually, the market hosts a wide array of international and local vendors that supply unique items for visitors from food and drink to gifts and decor. For the 2024 holiday season, the market has brought back the iconic boot-shape for their annual souvenir mugs.

Visit the Christkindlmarket now through Dec. 24. The market is open daily in Chicago at Daley Plaza and will be open Thursdays through Sundays in Aurora at Riveredge Park. For more information on operating hours and other details, visit the Chirstkindlmarket’s website.
