The U.S. News and World Report recently recognized a university in Illinois for having one of the most beautiful campuses in the country.
Aurora University, located in Aurora, was among 35 colleges and universities named on the list. Aurora University’s 37-acre campus features historical architecture and beautiful greenery, making it captivating for students and visitors.
Founded in 1893, Aurora University is one of the oldest universities in the state. Its historic Eckert Hall, built in 1912, is one of three original buildings, and it is still utilized today as classroom and administrative space. Charles Eckhart, World War II Veteran and namesake of the building who donated the funds to construct the hall, specifically requested the distinct red tile roof sported by the hall.
Across campus, more than 50 Greenspire Linden trees and more than 140 Dakota Pinnacle Asian Birch trees line entrances and cast shade across campus.
Aurora University’s campus has won previous recognition, including the grand honor from the Grounds Management Society in 2023.
