Parents: Maybe don't worry so much.
A new study by research firm WalletHub ranked the safety of teen drivers by state in 2014. Illinois ranked third behind Hawaii and New York, and tied with New York for the most comprehensive licensing laws for teens just getting behind the wheel.
WalletHub pointed out that vehicle crashes continue to be the leading cause of death for people aged 16 to 19.
The study used 16 metrics, ranging from number of teen drivers to impaired driving laws and teen driver fatalities.
Illinois teens were also among the most sober drivers, ranking at No. 2 in the nation.
