According to the latest ranking by U.S. News and World Report, 13 Illinois High Schools have been named among the best in the nation.
The rankings analyzed more than 20,500 public high schools across the country and 13 of Illinois’ public high schools received gold medal ratings. Gold medals were awarded to the top 500 schools, silver medals were given to the schools ranked between no. 501 and no. 2,711 and bronze medals were given to an additional 3,237 schools.
U.S. News and World evaluated each public school on student performance in reading and math, performances by underserved students, graduation rates and college-readiness performance.
Illinois also had 54 silver medal schools and 115 bronze medal schools on the list.
Two Illinois public high schools made the top 100: Chicago’s Payton College Preparatory High School ranked no. 52 and Northside College Prep ranked no. 82.

5. Jones College Prep High School in Chicago (no. 124)
6. Young Magnet High School in Chicago (no. 140)
7. Adlai E. Stevenson High School in Lincolnshire (no. 199)
8. Proviso Math and Science Academy in Forest Park (no. 261)
9. Lincoln Park High School in Chicago (no. 324)
10. Brooks College Prep Academy High School in Chicago (no. 345)
11. Lindblom Math and Science Academy in Chicago (no. 395)
12. Libertyville High School in Libertyville (no. 447)
13. Hinsdale Central High School in Hinsdale (no. 489)
