Owners Doc and Susan Richardson opened their family restaurant in Edwardsville, Illinois, and served pork, steaks, ribs, burnt ends, burgers, and a selection of fine desserts all under one roof. It’s become a bit of a local legend, with over 300 awards in the barbecue circuit.
Doc’s has also been named among the Best of the Best Barbecue by National Barbecue News, an extremely prestigious title to hold. To be eligible for recognition, a restaurant must be taste-tested, without notice, by an affiliate of National Barbecue News multiple times throughout the year.
Following years of business in the greater Edwardsville-Glen Carbon area, Doc’s Smokehouse and Catering quickly expanded and began to see anywhere from 600 to 800 people a day on the weekends. The success of the business prompted the need to move to a larger space. Now, Doc’s is just across the street from its original location and continues to serve the metro east.
Doc’s was closed on Mondays at its previous location, but its upgraded venue affords seven-day staffing, making customers happier than ever to have their favorite foods any day of the week. The unique flavors at Doc’s smokehouse and Catering come from generations of recipes and cooking traditions that produce the platters locals know and love. Only about a thirty minute drive from St. Louis, Missouri, Doc’s can be found at Shoger Drive, Suite D in Edwardsville, Illinois.
